Countdown to a Healthy ME Program
A healthy weight is one of the most important ways to have a healthy body. Many children in America carry more weight than is healthy.
We welcome any family that is concerned about their child’s weight and health. Our focus is on children who have a body mass index (BMI) – a comparison of weight to height – greater than the 85th percentile, which is how the American Academy of Pediatrics defines “overweight”. Many of the children we work with have a BMI greater than the 95th percentile. Our program is also designed for children who have medical problems because of their weight.
Our goal is to protect the health of children as they grow. Families are guided one step at a time to develop healthy habits that can last a lifetime. Our team is positive and encouraging, and we want your child to feel great about the progress he or she makes. The team includes pediatricians skilled in primary care, hormone problems, and digestive problems; social workers, and dieticians.
Your primary care provider needs to refer you to our program. At the first visit you will meet with a doctor and dietician. After the first visit, we work with you to decide how often follow-up visits should be and which team members will work with your family. Most families come monthly, others less often. We feel families do best when they work together. For this reason, we invite all members of the family to our visits.
