F. Lincoln Avery, M.D.

A well-known name in orthopedic sports medicine, Dr. Avery has practiced in the Portland area since 1987, and has built strong relationships with a number of local schools and colleges. He received his medical degree from Dartmouth Medical School and completed two years of general surgery internship at Harvard, before finishing his orthopedic residency at University of Rochester. A former collegiate ski racer, Dr. Avery is a physician for the U.S. Ski Team, and has traveled extensively abroad with the men's and women's Alpine World Cup and Olympic teams. An avid cyclist, skier, and water skier, he resides in Cumberland.

Krystian Bigosinski, M.D.

Dr. Bigosinski comes to the organization from Burlington, VT where he was formerly the Head Team Physician at the University of Vermont, and Medical Director of the Athletic Training and Exercise Physiology curriculum. He received his medical degree from the University of Illinois in 2005, and completed a Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship at Rush University in 2009. Dr. Bigosinski was an Assistant Team Physician for the Chicago White Sox, and is a Team Physician for the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association. He is looking forward to exploring the outdoors of Maine, and enjoys hiking, cycling, skiing, and fly fishing.

Heather Gillespie, M.D., MPH

Dr. Gillespie arrives from Los Angeles, where she was an Associate Professor at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, and Team Physician for the UCLA Department of Intercollegiate Athletics. She attended Duke University School of Medicine in 2003, and completed a Sports Medicine Fellowship at Maine Medical Center in 2007. Dr. Gillespie is excited to be closer to family and to reconnect with old friends in Maine. In her free time she enjoys swimming, painting and perfecting her chocolate chip cookie recipe.

Gregory Sawyer, M.D.

Dr. Sawyer joined MMP – Orthopedics & Sports Medicine from Vail, CO where he was an Orthopaedic Fellow at The Steadman Clinic. After graduating from Dartmouth Medical School in 2007, he completed residency at Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. Dr. Sawyer was an Assistant Team Physician for the Providence Bruins, an American Hockey League affiliate of the Boston Bruins. While in Vail, he provided local sports physical service to both Eagle Valley High School, and Vail Ski & Snowboard Academy. Dr. Sawyer is originally from Wilton, Maine.
